| AMPS Presidential Election 2007 Danny Egan Election Statement and Q&A |
| I am running for President of AMPS. I am asking you for your vote. WHY ? AMPS has tremendous potential. We can do more for our members if we have the vision, leadership and teamwork to make it happen. AMPS is at its best when we volunteer to help the other guy. I am a contributor, not a complainer, and I am looking for others to help us make AMPS all it can be. I have been a member of AMPS since 1993. Before that I was a member of the AMM. I've written articles for AFV News and Boresight; I have contributed kit and book reviews to those publications as well as to the new AMPS web site. Like many of you, I've volunteered at lots of shows (AMPS and non-AMPS) to help judge. In 2000, I co-founded the Albany, NY chapter of AMPS. Our meetings are held at my house. In 2006, we organized our first local show. In April 2006 I volunteered to serve all AMPS members as Secretary. So what have I done lately? I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish along with my fellow AMPS members: * In 2006, we started the AMPS Member Discount Program, which brings together our members and vendors. A team of AMPS Board embers contributed to this effort over the last few months, especially the incomperable Roy Chow. We are just getting started with this, but already the response has been enthusiastic. * In 2006, with Bob Smith, Jeff Moore, and Chuck Rothman, we started the AMPS Review Program, bringing in-depth kit reviews to the AMPS web site for the first time. This has been a team effort that would have never gotten off the ground without vision, leadership and teamwork. It has brought in new contributors who have never written for AMPS before, and it has brought in kit donations from several firms. * In 2007 I incorporated AMPS as a not-for-profit corporation, putting us on a solid legal basis for the first time. This is a task that was talked about for many years, but nothing was ever done. Shortly after taking responsibility for this work, I had it done. What about the future of AMPS? AMPS has huge potential, but it will take teamWORK and leadership to get us there. Frankly, AMPS is on a roll right now. We've made many improvements over the mast few months; Paul Roberts has improved Boresight, we have new contributors on the web site and a brand-new look to the site, and there are many vendors working more closely with us than ever before. We need to continue this positive direction and expand it. It's no accident that the accomplishments I cite are all team efforts. In a volunteer-run organization, anything that depends on a single person will be very vulnerable. AMPS cannot be a one-man show - the only way we will accomplish major tasks is through teamwork. If I am elected I will continue this emphasis on teamwork. When new ideas are raised we'll debate them as a group and execute them as a team. We need to continue to innovate to bring new value to our members. I also want to reach out to all our former members. There have been times in the past when we did not all agree on the direction AMPS should take. It is unfortunate that a few people left AMPS because of this. AMPS is a "big tent" and there is room for everybody who likes to build armor models, likes to help out the other guy, and has the good of AMPS in mind. Any issues of the past are just that - the past. We need to move forward, taking what is best about AMPS and innovating on top of that. This is about building bridges, not fighting battles. So you can count on me for leadership, teamwork, innovation, a look forward while respecting the past, and most of all a sesne of fun. This is a hobby, and I promise not to take myself or the models too seriously. I will take AMPS very seriously. Thank you for your vote. Questions? Email me anytime at fincht34@hotmail.com If the question is of general interest I'll post it here along with an answer. Questions and Answers Q: Will you raise taxes? A: I will never raise your taxes. |
